Requiem for Molly

 Molly Hyaline went from just another PC to a tough sole survivor to a folk hero. In my head she had her dark, lonely periods, and had, until Austin came in, guns blazing, started to think she was better off alone.

I decided that she and Austin would fall in love, to make things good and messy. 

But I am here to play a game, and why roll the dice if I won't respect the results?

So, I am going to take a moment and asses the impact she had on my campaign,  as a way of sending her off.

The Oracle

  • Does my setting include means of salvaging Molly? (No Way row on the Fate Table) 64. No. Dead is dead... especially when detonating antimatter is involved.
  • Did Molly's release of the Qath Research Combine's Secrets really damage them? (Very Likely)? 23 Yes. Qath's breakthroughs on Enkindler tech is now known, and a race is on to apply it to ruins all over known space... which means their further ethical breaches will be discovered.  Their association with Apth, shady bounties, and Black Market AI weapons will be devastating. 
  • Will Molly's part in it be remembered? (Unlikely) 92 Extreme No. Molly's own involvement was kept secret to keep her actions from hurting credibility. 
  • Was her record of C'Alhoon's hack against the A.I. useful enough to change the shape of the illegal market on AI? (Somewhat likely) 1 Extreme Yes. The hack renders the source code on most models useless, and similar hacks spread to other AI. It will paralyze AI warfare that contravention the Tau Convention. 
  • Did Molly help Gory Jenkins prepare for this change in the market? (Very Likely) 76. Gory Jenkins divested himself of AI assets, and let his rivals ruin themselves on AI, while he re-engineered his assets to work around C'Alhoon's hacks.
  • Has Molly done any damage to the schemes of The Eye of Chaos? (Very Unlikely) 3 Extreme Yes! Molly defied and survived the Eye of Chaos, which damaged its  very purpose - destroying ego and shattering will through extreme humiliation and cruelty. On a metaphysical level she has shattered its own identity.  It has few servants... losing a cult and destroying the faith of serial killer Sebastian has cost it much of its hood on reality.

It is pretty clear Molly never knew just how devastating her a tons were to some very evil forces in my setting. And will be, herself,  an unsung hero. But the shape of my campaign is severely altered.

I'm afraid I have one final question that is haunting me...

  • Is a ship carrying 25 tons of reserve antimatter, suffering from an antimatter core breach a bad thing to be flying around? Will the Intrepid's explosion be a chain reaction? (50/50) 28. Okay... not extreme enough  need a reason, but I am guessing decaying antimatter containment in such an intense quanity, driving through a system has some potentially horrifying outcomes.
I will make a list of important bodies in the system, and assign a chance of them being affected by a breached antimatter container in the next few months....

I will play this out sometime, but at this point I will say that after the Frigate,  with Aiden Pire on board is annihilated,  the Asharah navy manages to run operations to prevent  their star and habitats from being destroyed,  but their safe water supplies and much of the asteroid belt is damaged and extremely irradiated,  while thier sentry satellite and mine fields are very badly damaged,  making the system vulnerable to pirates and Alliance interference for years to come. Should've scanned before you opened fire, jackasses...

In Memoriam

I would like to imagine that should Austin ever make it back to Agil, he will encase a red hair taken from his pillow, a deck of cards, and a bottle of whiskey in a resin pyramid, and place it with a tiny hologram of Molly in that spot where she landed Thuvia on Ruuthal.
