Original Character Portraits

Character Portraits are selected from hundreds generated by AI using This Person Does Not Exist. When a suitable portrait is found it is edited in Adobe Photoshop Elements 14.1

I use the following method

  • Open the image from TPDNE
  • Duplicate the image twice.
  • On the uppermost layer use the Graphic Novel Filter (hard line, 2 smoothness passes)
  • Multiply the upper layer at 40% Opacity.
  • On the Middle Layer run the Comic Filter (Sunny Day, 2 smoothness passes)
  • Then on the Middle Layer run the Cutout Filter (8 layers, 0 edge simplicity, 1-2 edge fidelity)
  • On the Upper Layer outline the character using magnetic lasso.
  • Invert the selection
  • Create a new "Black" layer on top, and fill the selection in black.
  • Copy and paste a background over top of the character.
  • Transform the backround image until it fills the image.
  • Select the Black Layer and use Magic wand to select the negative space where the character is.
  • Select the Background and delete it.
  • Run the Comic filter (sunny day) on the background.
  • Select elements of the character and adjust with Hue/Saturation as nedded.

Later Character Portraits

Most of the character Portraits and alien designs from Voyage 2 onward were created using a Stable Diffusion based android app, Imagine. I used the Creative or Dream Shaper engines, coupled with Anime v.2, Futuristic,  Vibrant, & Studio Ghibli style tools.

Every character and alien species has a description I have saved of them to seed images.

This creates a lot of variation I'm style between images, but for my purposes, has been useful.
